Designed for residential and light commercial applications, each spring is manufactured to match your required wire size, inside diameter, length, and winding direction for accurate replacement and dependable performance.

Key Features

  • Includes one custom torsion spring up to 40 inches in length
  • Cones pre-installed on both ends for simplified installation
  • Available in left-hand wound and right-hand wound configurations
  • Customizable wire size and inside diameter options
  • Rated for approximately 10,000 operating cycles
  • Suitable for residential and light commercial garage doors

Custom Sizing Options

Each replacement torsion spring is custom cut to match your garage door system. Selecting the correct specifications helps maintain proper door balance, smooth operation, and opener performance.

How to Measure Wire Size

Wire size can be determined using a caliper, micrometer, or wire gauge. Alternatively, measure 10 tightly compressed coils to the nearest 1/16 inch and compare the measurement to a torsion spring wire size chart. Measuring 20 coils is recommended for additional accuracy.

How to Measure Inside Diameter

Measure the inside diameter of the spring itself, not the cone, to the nearest 1/16 inch. Existing manufacturer markings or cone numbers may help identify the correct size:

  • 134 or 175 = 1-3/4 inch inside diameter
  • 258 or 263 = 2-5/8 inch inside diameter

How to Measure Spring Length

Measure the torsion spring only when it is fully unwound. If the spring is broken or distorted, count the total number of coils and multiply by the wire size to determine the correct spring length.

Determining Winding Direction

Do not use the spring's position on the garage door to determine winding direction. Most torsion spring cones are color coded:

  • Red cone = Right-hand wound - installed on left side of garage door
  • Black cone = Left-hand wound - installed on right side of garage door

Replacement Recommendation

Garage door torsion springs wear at a similar rate. When one spring breaks, the second spring is typically near the end of its service life. Replacing both springs at the same time helps maintain balanced operation and consistent performance.
