Why Garage Door Lubricants are Essential

Regardless of how durable or expensive your garage door or equipment is, failing to use a protective lubricant can lead to permanent damage. This can result in costly repairs and delays, especially if you're in a facility. Action Direct offers a comprehensive range of lubricants to protect your equipment and machinery to ensure they remain in excellent condition. Read on to discover the benefits of Action Direct’s professional and long-lasting lubricants tailored to meet a variety of commercial and residential needs!

What are Lubricants?

A lubricant is an oil or grease designed to protect a machine's moving parts against rust and reduce friction to extend the lifespan of its parts. Garage doors and manufacturing equipment with their hinges, springs, chains, and other moving parts require regular lubrication to prevent malfunctions.

What Happens if I Don’t Use Lubricant on My Garage Door?

Without lubricant, at best your door or equipment may squeak when in use as parts rub against each other. At worse, the equipment will become damaged and lock up from the constant friction, preventing it from opening when you need it most. This could be particularly problematic if a facility can't manufacture or ship out products until repairs are made.

What Lubricant Should I Use for My Garage Door?

Action Direct’s spray lubricants are made to reach hard-to-access areas of your door’s system, eliminating rust, squeaking, and grime buildup on metal components without leaving a messy residue. Our patented formulas last longer than traditional silicone sprays and withstand cold weather, which helps to keep all moving parts rust-free.

Our lubricants come in three main formulas: Ultra Gel, Penetrating, and Food-Grade.

Ultra Gel

Ultra Gel combines natural and synthetic lubrication agents with a high molecular weight polymer (PTFE), which provides long-lasting protection from extreme temperatures, weather, and corrosion. It’s the most durable lubricant on the market for your garage door or other equipment and is designed to reach even the most challenging places for smooth operation. Ultra Gel won’t wash out from water and can be used on every hardware component, including hinges, chains, gears, and brackets. It prevents sticking and freezing of metal and rubber and can function in temperatures ranging from -30°F to over 600°F, ensuring your garage door won’t freeze shut or facility won’t stick.

Directions for use:

Shake the can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle.

Saturate the area to be lubricated.

Repeat the application if needed.

Ingredients:

Isoparaffinic Petroleum Distillate (CAS#64742-47-8)

Hexane (CAS#110-54-3)

Acetone (CAS#67-64-1)

Petrolatum (CAS#8009-03-8)

Butane (CAS#106-97-8)

Isobutane (CAS#75-28-5)

Propane (CAS#74-98-6)

Penetrating

Penetrating Lubricant is designed to penetrate and loosen advanced rust and corrosion on your garage door or machine’s moving parts, keeping them in peak condition. Ideal for hardware and parts that haven’t been lubricated in years, this lubricant’s rust-fighting power comes from its “creeping” nature that gives it the ability to get between rusted parts and speed up the loosening process. The foam spray is black and withstands extreme temperatures.

Directions for use:

Shake the can vigorously for 60 seconds after the mixing ball begins to rattle.

Spray the lubricant on all corroded, rusted, or frozen parts.

Let the foam stand for several minutes to allow thorough penetration.

Tap the part lightly to speed up penetration. Repeat application if necessary.

Food-Grade

Action’s Food-Grade Lubricant is USDA-rated H1, making it safe for use on food processing equipment in commercial facilities that can’t risk contamination from more generic lubricants. Ideal for food processing, production, or safety, this tasteless lubricant will ensure peace of mind in case of accidental contact. Its foaming properties minimize runoff, providing long-term lubricity on any surface. It resists temperature breakdown and features a creeping formula that penetrates and loosens rusted bolts while also lubricating moving parts, protecting metal finishes from rust and corrosion.

Directions for use:

Shake well before use.

Clean the target surface thoroughly.

Spray a light film of the lubricant.

How Often Should I Lubricate my Garage Door or Machinery?

Generally, you should lubricate your garage door or equipment's moving parts every six months. If your door or machine starts squeaking or grinding, it may need another coat sooner.
